Youth Actors’ Guild

YAG members get FREE classes every Saturday from 3:30-5:30 with Kathleen Kenny and myself (Emma Sue Harris) in exchange for working sound/lights for the theatre’s productions. This is an excellent opportunity for any young artist to learn the ropes of working backstage, receive high quality training, and be part of a student-led group that is quintessential to the operation of the theatre.

YAG is a sort of drama club in residence at Bob Carter’s Actors’ Workshop & Repertory Company in West Palm Beach. YAG is a student-led endeavor, so while Saturday acting classes are the base model for the program, what YAG spends time doing is up to YAG. We’ve done student directed one-acts, both published works and original works by YAG members; YAG members have an improv troupe (Parental Advisory) which performs periodically at the monthly Actors’ Rep improv shows; YAG has done clowning, dance classes, devised theatre, you name it (well, the students name it, and then we do it).

YAG is a greenhouse for the growth of the next generation of alternative theatre-makers, originally a program based at the Burt Reynolds Institute, run by none other than a young Bob Carter.
