Avery Sommers recently starred as “Bessie Smith” in The Devil’s Music… The life and Blues of Bessie Smith at the Theatre at Arts Garage in Delray Beach Florida. She received the Best Actress Award given by “The Arts and Entertainment Magazine of South Florida” “The Silver Palm Award” for Outstanding Contributions to the South Florida Theater Season 2015-2016. And She is nominated for a 2016-2017 Carbonell Award for Best Actress in a Play/Musical for “The Devil’s Music…The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith”

Avery performed Her One Woman show “I Love Being Here With You” to two sold out houses at the Raymond F. Kravis Center April 2016.

She recently appeared as “Motormouth Maybelle” in Hairspray at Actor’s Playhouse in Coral Gables, Florida. She was nominated for a Carbonell Award for her portrayal of that role.

Avery appeared as “Jewel” in the First National Tour of The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas starring Ann-Margret. And as “Matron Mama Morton” in the First National Tour of Broadway show Chicago. She won a Los Angeles “Ovation Award” for her portrayal of that role.

Avery appeared on Broadway with Ken Page in Ain’t Misbehavin’ in the “Nell Carter” role.

She also appeared on Broadway in Chicago, Showboat and Platinum.

She won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role of The Immigration Lawyer Ms. Ravencourt in the Independent movie “Immigration Tango.” Award was presented to her in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Avery was also nominated for Best Actress for her role of Danielle in the Independent movie “Lost Everthing” both filmed in South, Florida.

Avery is currently co-starring as Reverend Ruby Parks in the new YouTube Series IN SANITY, FLORIDA. To be released late spring 2017.
